Gold Ewer with Chiseled Dragon-among-Clouds Pattern

The Palace Museum

The Palace Museum
Beijing, China

This tall, gold ewer has a flaring mouth and a slender neck; it features a mélange of designs borrowed from a range of other types of objects. Imbued with a feeling of steadiness, the compact pattern is in shallow bas-relief with few alterations. The ewer belonged to a set of vessels used for wine consumption in the imperial palace.
