Yanggwan is an official hat that was worn with the official robe of the courtier and the ceremonial attire worn for ancestral rites during the Joseon Dynasty. The one worn with the official robe was called geumgwan. A round cover of around 10 cm in diameter, called yang, extended from the forehead to the back. The number of attached gold lines differed according to the rank of the wearer, and the hat was referred to as five-, four-, or three-line yanggwan.
