KAP has launched with a three-year plan spanning from 2011 to 2013. At the first step in 2011, art professionals and critics selected 21 artists, and curators from 13 private art museums organized their virtual solo exhibitions. KAP would love to introduce a diverse spectrum of Korean contemporary art to the global audience. Through these efforts, KAP will play a significant role in the promotion and development of Korean contemporary art. Also, the KAP will become a useful platform, which will serve as a stepping-stone to create cultural exchange and global networks with diverse art people. Please visit www.koreanartistproject.com
  • Critic's Note: Is our communication with others principally based on social language use? Is there any other route and modality in such interpersonal exchange? The problem of communication - that of such as a foreigner faced with a new environment or of the handicapped in the daily social life - is used as a subject matter, but can it really form the basis of a burlesque translation of the existence? The work of Hyun-wook Kang leads us to ask and develop from these questions at the level of the social world. It also traces with some emotions the unattainable goal of communication between different cultures. The artist reveals what is covered by a wide consensus in the current state of the world: the epoch in which globalization, blurring of frontiers and shortening of distances (low-cost flights, internet) seem to dominate our world and be in direct touch with the breath of the planet. Lurking behind this curtain is numerous complicated individual difficulties posing insurmountable barriers for each of us - left alone, unequipped, unable to speak the language of the strange territory.
