Green-glazed Plate with Carved Patterns

Yangzhou Museum

Yangzhou Museum
Yangzhou, China

Unearthed in the Tang-dynasty tomb in the construction site of Yuemingxuan in Yangzhou city in 1981, this piece in the shape four sunflower petals has an opening rim that expands outwards, short belly and ring-shaped base. Its smooth, greyish white pottery body is covered with lustrous green glaze. Two symmetrical lotus-leave motifs were carved in the center of the interior bottom, surrounded by six lotus leaves, all of which are composed of meticulously-done free-flowing lines, indicating that this is one of the best pieces made by Yue Kiln.
