Green-glazed West-Asian Pottery Pot

Yangzhou Museum

Yangzhou Museum
Yangzhou, China

Unearthed in the Auto Repair & Service of Yangzhou in 1965, this exotic large-sized pot decorated with parallel lines and wave patterns serves as an important evidence for the study on the history of economic and cultural exchanges between China and the West. With a lip-shaped opening rim, high neck, enlarging shoulders and belly that tapers in the lower section, pie-shaped base, and a bottom with a convex interior side, this piece features two symmetrical ear-shaped handles which link its neck and shoulders. It is covered with green glaze both inside and outside, with the earthy yellow body slightly exposed on the base.
