Green Snake

Martial arts are involved in Sichuan operas. Thus, a female character who loves to wield weapons is a Wu Dan (female warrior). As in Sichuan opera, the female warrior in shadow puppetry often wears a type of headgear called a “sun cover.” This type of headgear is similar to a sun hat, but without the top. Tassels are strung along the brim of the headgear. This character is the Green Snake from the “Legend of the White Snake”; it wears a sun cover. Its martial clothing is the same as that which is used by other female warrior characters.
