Green-winged macaw

Senckenberg Nature Museum Frankfurt

Senckenberg Nature Museum Frankfurt
Frankfurt am Main, Germany

With a wing span of almost 1.5 meters, the Red-and-green Macaw is among the largest of the parrots. It occurs in northern South America and primarily feeds on nuts. An extremely powerful beak allows the birds to open even hard-shelled Brazil nuts. The long, graduated tail and the long and narrow wings identify it as a strong and persistent flyer.
