Three of the four Parmly sisters are shown in this portrait; the youngest sister, Louisa Cotton Parmly, is not depicted. From left to right: Julia Parmly Billings, Mary Montagu Parmly Ward, and Anna Ehrick Parmly Rossiter. Anna was the wife of the painting's artist, Thomas Rossiter; she passed away a year before the piece was complete.

According to the Rossiter family papers, this painting has the alternate title of "The Three Graces of Bond Street".
