Chisels, wedges, lamps made of stone with a weak flame fueled by animal fat: rudimentary tools the "Knappen" - miners of Germanic origin – used to immerge themselves in to the Earth depths. Between the 12th and the 14th centuries, they turned Calisio Mountain, at the North of Trento, in to a mine galleries network: the “Canope”. The tools you see have been collected almost a century ago by G.B. Trener (1877-1954), a geologist from Trentino. He was the father of the Venezia Tridentina’s Natural History Museum, the MUSE ancestor.
