Through its theme centered around the guitar from a cubist reinterpretation, this piece can be ascribed to the series which the sculptor worked on during the last two years of his life from 1984 to 1985, Fun With Picasso, Cubism and the Guitar (Divertimentos con Picasso, El Cubismo y La Guitarra), inspired by Picasso's works. In this last series, despite retaining a certain connection with previous approaches around the theme of destruction and reconstruction, Serrano would create sculptures far different from the shapes and contents of previous series. They have smooth surfaces made from diverse materials (bronze, marble, plaster, porcelain, corten steel), with a particular focus on those which feature guitars such as this piece. In the words of the Aragonese artist: "Cubism is one part reason and one part emotion. Destroy to construct. Destroy one reality to construct another. Cubism is therefore a valid artistic response to the times of searching and unrest we find ourselves in."
