The back and sides that can be seen today are made of spruce, like the soundboard. This is quite unusual in the guitar-making tradition but this body was most likely only the supporting structure for the original rosewood veneer that was later removed. Mother-of-pearl decorative motifs adorn the neck, fretboard and sound board. This instrument belongs to a historical transition phase for the guitar. On the one hand it still has ancient features, like the narrow and oblong sound box. On the other hand it presents newer features, such as the six single strings (instead of the double courses that characterised guitars during the previous period), fixed fret (that replaced movable catgut frets), and the eight-shaped headstock. Fabricatore also produced several lyre-shaped guitars.
