The Count of Provence, younger brother of the King, wears a spring coat, always worn open. Across the front, he wears the blue sash of the Order of Saint-Esprit, and the Order of Toison d’or is placed on the blue sash. In his hand he holds a black three-cornered felt hat to complement his outfit in the French style, and he carries a sword. The coat is particularly richly decorated and woven using the fluting technique, which plays on the effects of the weft to bring out the brilliance of the silk.
