Hadlow Castle was a large Gothick house that was built in the late 18th century. The enormous tower, inspired by the folly at Fonthill in Wiltshire, was begun in 1838 and its lantern added in 1840. This photograph was taken shortly before the house was dismantled. The surviving tower is a Grade I listed building.
