The Haggadah, a compilation of prayers, historical narrative, and songs, is recited at the seder meal in fulfillment of the commandments to tell one's children of the Exodus from Egypt. Its text was first compiled in 7th or 8th century CE, but many variant editions have been produced since then in all parts of the world where Jews have lived.
