In today’s urban district Altona, farmers and stockbreeders settled during the Neolithic Period. The archaeological site, situated close to the junction of Zum Urnenfeld and Flottbecker Drift, from which the bowl here on display comes, is very rare proof of a dwelling site of the oldest Neolithic farmers of the Hamburg region, whereas their imposing Megalithic graves have been preserved in great numbers in northern Germany to this day.
