This handbag is a forerunner of the woman’s purse of the twentieth century. It fastens shut with a ball-twist clasp and has an integral section designed to keep coins secure. Paper money could be kept separately in one of the other compartments. This style of accessory would lose its chain as it developed into a purse that would be carried within a larger handbag.
