The Game Boy Advance (GBA) is a 32-bit handheld video game console developed by Nintendo. It is a sixth generation console and was released in 2001. It is backwards compatible with both the Game Boy and the Game Boy Color, and can be hooked up to outside devices such as the Nintendo GameCube. GBA games geared themselves toward sprite-based platformers and Role-Playing Games (RPGs), and became a favorite with old-school gamers with ports of earlier 8-bit and 16-bit games. One new entry on the GBA was an addition to the Legend of Zelda series. Nintendo released the game, entitled The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, to Japanese audiences in late 2004 and America in early 2005. The game retained the format, graphical and gameplay style introduced with previous handheld endeavors The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons. Featuring the heroic Link as the protagonist and the villainous Vaati as his enemy, the game begins when the latter opens the Bound Chest, a container designed to imprison great evil. Link must journey through the mythical kingdom of Hyrule to gather the Four ElementsEarth, Fire, Water, and Windin order to save Princess Zelda from a spell Vaati cast upon her, turning her to stone. The game sold approximately one million copies, making it a successful new chapter in the franchise.
