On December 15, 1790, the most famous living composer of the time, Joseph Haydn, left Vienna for a concert tour to England. The journey from Vienna to London was long and strenuous, stopping at various places along the way. On Saturday, December 25, 1790, the travelers arrived in Bonn, and on the same day Haydn signed the guest book of the Bonner Lese- und Erholungsgesellschaft. It was probably on this occasion that Beethoven and Haydn first met.
