The motifs adorning the back plates of this Hanukkah lamp include emblems that commemorate an event in the history of central European Jewry. The lamp features Stars of David with a "Swedish Hat" in their center. This was the emblem of the Jewish community of Prague, bestowed by Emperor Ferdinand II of Austria in the 17th century as an expression of gratitude to the Jews for helping to defend the city against an attack by the Swedish army in 1627.
