When Premier Khrushchev and his wife arrived for their visit in 1959, Mamie so pitied Mrs. Khrushchev's dull, frumpy attire that she gave her a fashionably new Sally Victor hat. Mrs. Khrushchev felt she couldn'st wear it since it so blatantly exemplified capitalism.

One of Mamie's pink hat stands-with an "E " for Eisenhower.
