Boiled leather flat cap with black feather and ribbon ties. The cap is formed from two pieces of leather held together with tacking stitches. The hat has several cuts on the top of the crown, one either side of the hat, through which a ribbon has been threaded to create a chin strap. There are also two narrow parallel cuts towards the front of the hat, into which a feather has been inserted. neither the ribbon nor the feather is not original and probably both date from the first half of 20th century.

This hat is likely to have created through 'Cuir bouilli' process. This is the term given to leather objects which are moulded into shape through a process of boiling the leather.
