I was emceein' all of the shows that came to town. But, I got more rounds of applause when they said, "Showtime. Hit it!" And when Chattie Hattie walked out there, in all my fine glad rags I used to wear when I was young, beautiful, and Black. Honey, didn't nobody have nothin' on me. Now that's the truth. I had standin' ovations because you were a legend in your own time. You were respected. Your fans loved you. Worshipped you. We had people that would get in trouble with the law and would not go give theirselves up at the police headquarters. They'd come to us, for us to take 'em downtown. That's the kind of rapport we had with our listening audience.
