Head in the clouds

Through Head in the Clouds, we present Roofscapes’ visions for the future of resilient cities. We propose life on the roof, on the one hand, as a pragmatic answer to environmental issues such as urban heat island effect or biodiversity shrinking and, on the other hand, as a poetic and hopeful conception of community life in dense cities neighborhoods, articulated around green open spaces at the domestic scale. Timber platforms absorb the intense heat from the summer sun while supporting new anchors for vegetation and biodiversity in the city. Dwellers that were restricted to their building can now connect at the roof level with their neighbors through a common green datum, where they can enjoy outdoor space and engage in urban farming activities to redevelop the ethics of local food production.
