Princess Hedvig Sofia (1681-1708) of Sweden was the older sister of King Charles XII of Sweden. In 1698 she married the Duke Fredrik IV of Holstein-Gottorp, with whom she had the son Karl Fredrik in 1700. On the portrait she is dressed up in a golden gown with an ermine cloak on her shoulders and a black plume in her hair. Her facial expression is thoughtful, almost sad.
