This helmet was made for and worn by John Glenn during his historic Mercury Friendship 7 flight in February 1962.It was constructed of a resinous, impregnated fiber glass hard shell with an individually molded crushable impact liner. It contained a visor sealing system, ventilation exhaust outlet, and a communications system.Tranmsferred to the National Air and Space Museum from NASA - Manned Spacecraft Center in 1967.
