Hexagonal Tile

Tile made of white paste covered by white slip and decorated under transparent glaze in cobalt blue, yellow, green and red with black outlining. It is decorated with a colourful picture of a large monastery complex.The buildings have blue domed roofs surmounted by crosses. The detailed treatment of features like doors, windows and retaining walls suggests that the tile may depict a specific monastery. Below the scene is a decorative band consisting of a leafy branch with tiny yellow flowers. The monastery garden is suggested by cypress trees and branches bearing yellow blossom and red berries that are visible behind the buildings. At the centre of the tile is a mounting hole.
