A copper alloy hand guard from a fencing rapier. Also known as a quillion, which means either of the two arms forming the cross guard. It is a known that the prisoners of war were able to use weapons for fencing lessons, as there is an award, the Brevet de Maitre (Certificate of Mastery), awarded to one of the prisoners testified.
