These aerial photographs were taken on behalf of the "Régie des Mines de la Sarre" in the early 1950s, which was responsible for managing the Saarland's pits between 1948 and 1954. On 1 January 1948, the "Régie des Mines de la Sarre" acquired all rights and commodities of Saargruben AG in the process of liquidation. The coal from the Saar mines was first brought to a joint pool, from where the coal was distributed in accordance with public service guidelines. From 1 April 1949, the "Régie des Mines de la Sarre" was able to sell the Saar coal without any restrictions or conditions. This lead to the consistent expansion of Saar mines.
