Hive:Elegy for the Fall

This mixed media work derives its conceptual inspiration from the systemic brutality visited upon the black body via interaction with certain members of the police. The hive form with its cluster of black bees, suggests the enduring resiliency of community. The twisted branch has been stripped of nearly all its leaves—except for three bearing the images of the artist and his siblings representing the surviving--the cluster of fallen leaves are printed with the portraits of unarmed victims of police brutality.
