Svay Ken is an artist from Takeo, Cambodia. He is an unusual artist, in that he did not study art, but took up painting in his 60s after he retired. Almost as if he was creating a pictorial diary, he painted one paining everyday or every other day; creating images that warmly depict scenes of ordinary life.
Depicting a multi-generational Cambodian family and scenes of their everyday life, the artist tries to express something important in our lives. The title of the piece could be seen as advice addressed particularly to young people, which shows the artist’s awareness that Cambodian society is heading in the opposite direction.
