This is a headband worn by men of the Joseon Dynasty, to arrange their hair by wrapping it around the forehead. It was made in a rectangular shape using horsehair or human hair. The wearer pulls hair up together and wraps the band around the forehead to tighten the string until the band fits the head. The ring to hang the string varied in materials according to the wearer’s status. When it is worn, its front is raised higher than both sides, so it was also called paljamanggeon, which literally means a headband in a caret (^) shape. It became obsolete and disappeared after the ordinance prohibiting topknots was implemented.
