I have been experimenting with fabric-formed mould making, vacuum forming, 3-D printing,
laser cutting, laser marking, decals, press moulding, and slip casting. This new work advances
my investigations of natural forms pitted against artificial construction, and surfaces separated
from and reintegrated with forms.
For the large-scale sculptural forms, I begin with fabric and transform it into slip cast and pressmoulded
porcelain. In some cases, new technologies replace traditional ones. For example, laser
marking replaces conventional kiln firing, with each pixel of an image sintered permanently onto
custom-made porcelain tiles from the Imperial porcelain capital of China. All of these processes,
old and new, lead to what lies at the core of the finished work, a constructed and circular
reflection on existence and experience.
