Hao Shiming sees himsel f as a contemporary arti s t as opposed to a new ink artist. For him, ink is solely a medium. Hao’s art i s t ic thinking also fal ls into the category of contemporary art, rather than in terms of the ink language itself. This is actually one orientation of new ink artists.
Hao adopts digestion and restructuring in his arti s t i c language, wh i ch i s bas ed o n h i s percept i o n o f the contemporary culture. In his work, traditional spirits vs. contemporary reality have undergone continuous evolution and restructuring. Therefore, it’s easy for us to notice a strong vitality in his creation. Such an artistic vitality is not only a phenomenon, but also hints how people are living, which is closely related to the state of today’s society.
Hao’s creation originates in traditional Chinese culture, but keeps abreast with the changing times. In his recent works, the images have become increasingly abstract with a more mature language. For example, he displayed the traditional Chinese poetry and prose in the form of calligraphy, but with a truly contemporary and international language. Hao is quite a valuable case among young artists by centering his creation on traditional Chinese culture but conveying a global vision and a future-concerned artistic conception.
