Almost halfway through the film the bus called Priscilla breaks down, trapping the three intrepid drag queens in the desert. To distract herself, Mitzi (Hugo Weaving) dons a fabulous green frock and practises her dance routine while singing ‘I Will Survive’. Director Stephan Elliott recalls, ‘All those landscapes, when you get out there and you look at the dress and the production design and they’re all working … it was putting a guy in a lime green dress against that background. Not only do you notice the dress, but the background becomes more of a statement.’
