"HULLO TANGO" DRESS: COSTLY DISPLAY LAST NIGHT IN THE HIPPODROME REVUE
Last night, the new Hullo Tango revue at Hippodrome presented the most amazing outfits that had ever been displayed on stage. Gowns based on Bakst’s sketches, which cost up to £7,000 to create, stun with numerous shades in all of their possible combinations.
Miss Ethel Levey’s dazzling dress is made of canary-yellow sateen worn on flesh-pink. The draped skirt flows into a thin hazy train, whereas the tulle bodice is decorated with a string of pearls embracing the neck and going all the way from the hairdo to the waistline, where it is supported by a bright bunch of black, orange, and white flowers.
A Mercutio coat
The coat is obviously the most amazing part of the outfit, though. The Mercutio coat made of black panne velvet with emerald sateen lining and fur welt, has its edge decorated with orange braid.
Julia James is wearing a graceful riding suit that emphasizes her trim figure. The blue Oxford suit with white piping is decorated with silver buttons. Miss Shirley A. Kellogg’s four elegant dresses, just as Levey’s and James’s dresses, are created by Lucile specially for the revue. The first one is made of soft blue Madonna sateen, draped around a straight chiffon underskirt, with every ruffle edged with a narrow band of black velveteen.
The second dress is made of flesh-pink sateen with long white tulle sleeves gathered on the wrists.
In the third dress, lilac and pink shades are combined in harmony.
Last but not least, in Miss Kellogg’s quartet is the wonderful dress made of blue tulle over sateen, decorated with ruffles and a bunch of pearls on the waist.
