Mathematician, general inspector of mines, coach and then professor of analysis at the École polytechnique (1885) and at the École des mines (School of Mines). In 1912 he was appointed professor at the College de France. His dissertations relate to the theory of curves and algebraic surfaces. He researches Abel's theorem, the applications of transcendents to geometry, and completes the theory of cyclic surfaces. Author of a "Analysis course at the École Polytechnique (1903-1904)". Member of the Academy of Sciences (1901)
