“This piece uses as a framework a girls’ marching organization which entertains at football games. One troupe in Dallas, Texas has the slogan: “Beauty knows no pain”.

I remember being a cheerleader for three months in high school. I was the best one they had because I could jump very high. But I didn’t know why I was there, so I quit.

The use of the word beauty creates an opposite. Distinguishing beauty from ugliness necessitates a judgement. Judging needs a standard. A standard of beauty causes a desire for conformity. Conformity needs a power to organize it. Using power risks the distortion of power.” – Jennifer Muller
