Hwalot was a bridal robe for nobility and commoners, similar but slightly different with Wonsam. It is usually made of ornamental fabric that is richly embroidered with polychrome silk threads on a red satin damask background. However, this unique robe made of red felt fabric instead of the usual silk satin, and lined with a patterned indigo blue tabby silk. The front panel is embroidered in the pattern of phoenix, waves, rocks and flowers. The rear panel has a peony on each shoulders, and snowy heron, lotus, peony, phoenix, and wave pattern along with Chinese characters meaning 'the unity of two families' and 'the source of great fortune'.
