Hydria with juggling women

Glencairn Museum

Glencairn Museum
Bryn Athyn, United States

“This mid-fifth century B.C. hydria (vessel for carrying water) is decorated with a scene from women’s daily life. A woman wearing a chiton and himation is seated in a typical classical Greek chair and is juggling three balls. Her two maid-servants stand to either side, the one on the left holding a sash and the one on the right holding a plemochoe, a perfume container. A large vessel holding wool is located on the ground to the left of the seated figure.” (David Gilman Romano and Irene Bald Romano, Greece and Rome: The Classic World: An Exhibit of Greek and Roman Artifacts_, Glencairn Museum, 1986, no. 10)
