Iberian Votive Offering

5th century BC

Museo Juan Cabré

Museo Juan Cabré
Calaceite, Spain

A warrior figure in an offering position with a helmet. The face is expressive. The right arm is bent up with the palm facing forward. The left arm is down, again with the palm showing. The thumbs are held apart from the fingers, which are stretched out. The torso is naked, while a belt with a large rectangular buckle holds up a short pentagonal skirt with triangular points at the front and back. The separated legs are rigid, muscular, and well shaped. The feet have been carefully crafted, with the toes marked out using deep incisions.
