Iberian Votive Offering

4th-3rd centuries BC

Museo Juan Cabré

Museo Juan Cabré
Calaceite, Spain

Male warrior figure with headpiece. Its form is very rigid, with sloping shoulders and arms held straight down against the body. The figure is wearing a tight-fitting, floor-length tunic. His features are clearly outlined, with an expression that makes him appear calm or asleep. His mouth is half-open with a deep horizontal incision and well-defined lips, and he has a long, prominent nose. There also appears to be some kind of adornment on the ears. Incisions etched by an engraver's chisel mark out the diagonal sash that crosses over his right shoulder, supporting a circular shield on his back.
