Iberian Votive Offering

4th century BC

Museo Juan Cabré

Museo Juan Cabré
Calaceite, Spain

Male votive offering. Possibly a warrior or messenger. The figure has well-defined and expressive facial features, including a prominent nose. The eyebrows and mouth can easily be made out, along with the slightly crooked mouth, the lips, and the rounded chin. He is wearing a helmet. His right arm is extended downward, holding something that has since been lost—possibly a falcata sword. The figure is rigid with the legs together. The point where they meet is marked by a long, vertical hollow starting under the waist. The large motionless feet are together.
