This is not a snake, neither an earthworm. It is an amphibian, a relative of frogs and newts. This specimen was collected by Dr. Wen-San Huang, Curator of Herpetology, and Dr Wen-Hao Chou, on an expedition to Xishunbanna, Yunnan, China. This nocturnal caecilian inhabits tunnels at muddy bank of tropical streams. The female performs brood care behavior. The larvae are usually found under rocks in water.
