Al-Fatiha (The Opening) is the name of the first chapter if the Qur'an - the text of al-Fatiha is spread over this and one other large central cartouche. Its recitation is an integral part of the daily life of any practising Muslim - as part of the daily ritual prayers, it is the one chapter of the Qur'an that all Muslims must know by heart.
