Jongmyo jeryeak became complete with the addition of the dance to the playing of instruments and the singing of the songs in the deungga and heonga orchestras, the deungga symbolizing heaven while the heonga standing for the earth. The dance performed between the two represents the people, who attempt to achieve harmonious human nature by responding to the music of the heavens and the earth. One can read the intent of the ancestors who tried to achieve a wholeness of instrumental music, song, and dance, and, through it the unity of heaven, the earth, and the people in this ritual.
