The J. Paul Getty Museum
Los Angeles, United States

A solid cast statuette of Athena Parthenos. Her left arm is lowered to hold a missing shield; the right arm is bent and a hole pierced in her hand to hold a missing spear. She wears a helmet with a double crest; a hole at the top of the head is probably indicative of a missing third crest. The goddess' head is tilted slightly downward; the hair under the helmet frames the face and runs underneath the helmet from a central part. In the back, the hair is gathered in a ponytail at the shoulders. Her bent right knee breaks the vertical folds of her chiton, which she wears belted at the waist, under a himation and a shawl.
