In Brazil, the main nesting areas for green turtles are located in oceanic islands (Rocas Atoll/RN, Fernando de Noronha Archipelago/PE and Trindade Island/ES), where human disturbance is lower. This fact contributes to the stability of green turtle populations in Brazilian waters.

The Fernando de Noronha Archipelago hosts the smallest green turtle remnant nesting population, which was nearly extirpated by heavy human exploitation prior to legal protection. Green turtles have a small, blunt head. Their beak is coarsley serrated which helps them in tearing marine vegetation, their main food source.
