These are five kinds of incense pastilles contained in the tin cases. Incense pastille is called “takimono”, with a shape similar to a pill, in which powdered fragrant woods and flavor ingredients are kneaded together with amazura (ivy sap syrup), honey, coal dust, and others. When it is heated, it gives off an enjoyable aroma. The labeled seals on each tin case represent the names that give us a clue to the scent.
