National Museum of Natural Science
Taichung, Taiwan

Mysterious Longman’s beaked whales occur in deep waters in tropical to temperate Indo-Pacific. They bear two peculiar giant mandibular teeth as other ziphiid whales do. Cephalopods are their main preys. This 5-metered lactating female whale was stranded in northeast Taiwan coast in the summer of 2005. It is one of the 11 known Longman’s beaked whale specimens on earth. The complete skeleton is even scarce in the world.
