  • Description: The way this parchment page was cut has eliminated the marginal decoration of the initial, but also the codicological elements essential for dating the work and understanding its provenance. The presence of St. Thomas Aquinas, with his dark cloak held in his right hand, an open book in his left, leads scholars to hypothesize that the page was commissioned by the Dominicans. Perhaps it originally belonged to a hymnal used in a monastery of the order.
